So we made it out the other side!!, Beat Cypher 06 went off with a bang as we played host to amazing beats from FS Green, Sir OJ, Shears and Urban Monk. Its dope that each one gets taken to another level in some way and this one was no exception with some real heavyweight producers we played host to not just 1 international guest but 5!! as FS, OJ also had DJ/Producer Full Crate (who shared the wheels with CRO that night), ill producer Hayzee and their photographer Patrick.

Not only this but we were also blessed enough to have Dreaddy Beats (a Birmingham native at that too) roll through to judge the beat battle and let us hear some exclusive blaps straight out the macbook!

As usual we had the PA's do their thing which came from Taharka, and Chima Anya and Serocee in the second half, as with all these joints theres a lot of analyzing and runnings to break down so hopefully next time we'll keep taking things to the next level.

I told you i would be back with some footage of the flyover show 2009 (well only eatgoods set lol)

Anyway it was great day for it, the sun was shinning and the music was being pumped out under Birmingham's Hockley Flyover, about 500-1000 people turned up throughout the day just chilling, listening the some proper music and having a drink (no drama). A very big thanks to goes Soweto Kinch for all the hard work he puts every year putting this together BIG UP!

Normally the beat cypher announcement should have gone up a good couple weeks ago but we've been secretly having a venue beef story thats longer than the star wars saga.. :-[

All this and the BEHIND CLOSED DOORS DVD/CD that had to be ready for launch meant its been hectic to say the least SO THERES 3 WEEKS to the beat cypher... ;) LETS GET EM
Basically our old spot Rootys @ the Custard Factory has closed and is waiting to be sold, after almost calling it off and finding another place (which looked promising) we kinda left us hangin; and had one more chance to either flop or find another place, luckily we made it happen!.

This beat cypher is the official launch party for PROLIFIK (aka AB0181) and KOSYNE's DVD project BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, its a hiphop production magazine DVD/CD and features exclusive interviews, Q&A slots, beats from the lab and a diggin feature from producers The Last Skeptik, S-Type, Eyebs, Kelakovski, Darren Paul, Figaro, Ed Strong & Budgie and also comes bundled with an album length beat CD showcasing raw beats out the lab from our featured producers...at BEAT CYPHER 04 you'll be able to (hopefully) see some of the DVD and have the opportunity to bag yourself one of the limited edition of 300 first pressing!.

Apollo vs Kelakovski Beat Battle

As youtube is waste I've had to split these up into 2 parts so peep what went down last Wednesday as the LDBB crew and Eat Good Fam (Kosyne, Kelakovski, Eyebs & Raul Supreme, Sonnyjim, Taharka, R2ThaBeatz) went to London to show support to the YNR camp for their latest release; Sir Smurf Lil's 2nd album "A New Bloodline"...(smurf recently took part in the LDBB Beat Cypher so we gotta show love back.

Anyway at the event was a beat battle that was supposed to be between Apollo (Champions Of Nature, producer for Conspicuous, Ralph Rip Shit, Jehst & more!) and Apatight (Groundwurq, Jack Flash, Sir Smurf, LDBB league & more!)...turned out Apatight couldnt make it on the night and after a call from Jehst (about 20 mins before we left too!) Kela took on the challenge and offered to play blaps in place of Apz. (it just so happened we had all our gear with us as the LDBB lot were performing at Beadshed the next day and were stoppin with fellow LDBB head Jon Phonics...vid to follow).

Ok so heres how it went down; I think you'll agree Apollo and Kela both brought the heat that night and was dope to watch it go down!!.

Reef The Lost Cauze - "I Wonder" prod Marco Polo

Feelin this at the moment so I thought id share.

Heres the backstory (stuff like this I always love reading)

This song actually was never supposed to happen. I got a beat cd from Marco at a Beat Society in like 2005. He gave me all these bangers, battle ready type joints. I was lovin it but there was this one joint that had such a dope feel to it, and it had this voice sayin "I wonder" in the chorus and I knew that was my beat. This shit was like number 14 on the cd and he was like "you sure? This is the one you want?" but I convinced him I would do it justice.

So some time went by and due to my budget I couldn't afford to cop it off him, and he was trying to hook me up but he had bills too so I understood. I told him to try and hold it for as long as he could. So like a year went by, and the track was pretty much not gonna happen. We hadn't spoken really, he was grinding and getting his placements and he was workin on his album as well. So I figured by now it was gone.

So as fate would have it, I seen him in Philly at this show I was playin at wit Wu, Redman, Jedi, and mad other people. It was nuts. He was supposed to have some tickets waiting but things got screwed up and I got him in, and after that he waived the fee haha. Funny thing is, after I got the greenlight to write to it, I got shook. I knew I wanted to say something but I didn't know what. So I ended up not even finishing the song until I was on the train to his crib in Brooklyn to record it. I got high as shit, got on the train with the first verse written, put the beat on in my headphones and just wrote around the hook. It's just things I wonder about, things I think about as a grown man in America. My perspective has changed over the years, I'm aware of more things going on in the world and this song articulates that somewhat.

A lot of it is just me trying to sound smart.

just to let you lot know
if you didn't make it to the LOUIS DEN BEAT CYPHER
you missed a hell of a night...
It kicked off with DJ CRO playin track's to get the vibe right

While the producers JEHST/SOWETO KINCH/MR DICK /KELAKOVSKI
set up there equipment ready for the off..

1st round each producer played 2 beats of there choice
2nd round was the sample flip where each producer used the same sample

3rd round was the same as the 1st
4th round was a jam session with each producer playing different parts

Inbetween the rounds there where LIVE PA'S from
THE LOST GENERATION/MICALL PARKNSUN/SONNYJIM & SIR SMURF LIL'

But even the PA'S had a slight twist..
They each rhymed 3 tracks over 3 of the producers beats...Pretty sick
Also between rounds there was an OPEN BEAT
Where up & coming producers could sign up at the begining of the night
an get 3 track's that they'd produced played....NICE
It was a very unique night & big up all those that represented
